TASCAM Debuts US-HR Series Of USB Audio Interfaces

by | News, Production

TASCAM announces the introduction of the US-HR Series of high-resolution USB audio interfaces that consists of three models — the US-1x2HR, US-2x2HR, and US-4x4HR — all with 24-bit/192 kHz audio performance, stated low latency (4 sample driver buffer), Ultra-HDDA mic preamplifiers with +48-volt phantom power, a suite of included software, and more.

In addition, US-HR Series interfaces have a Loopback function with stereo/mono switch support (Windows, Mac, iOS, iPad OS), support for OBS streaming software, a USB Type-C connection with an included USB C-A cable, and are USB bus power capable.

All three interfaces offer a dye-cast aluminum honeycomb structure on the side panels with a slight upward tilt angled to make them easier to work with. In addition, the weight is such that the unit won’t move when cables are connected or disconnected.

The included software bundle includes Steinberg’s Cubase LE / Cubasis LE 3, IK Multimedia’s SampleTank 4 SE, and a free, 3-month subscription to Auto-Tune Unlimited.

US-1x2HR: 1 Mic, 2-IN/2-OUT. Its XLR microphone input and 1/4-inch TRS input is switchable between line or instrument input.

US-2x2HR: 2-IN / 2-OUT MIDI / USB. It provides two XLR/TRS Combo inputs and offers mic, line, or instrument capability per input. The MIDI IN and OUT terminals facilitate external MIDI devices such as keyboards, drum machines, controllers, etc. to be synchronized and controlled.

US-4x4HR: 4-IN / 4-OUT MIDI / USB. It offers 4 XLR mic inputs and 4 TRS line inputs offering mic, line, or instrument capability per input. Also onboard are two headphone outputs that can be used in various music / multi-media production environments such as vocal / guitar simultaneous recordings and multitrack recordings. Like the US-2x2HR, it includes MIDI IN and Out terminals that facilitate external MIDI devices.

My Love-Hate Relationship with the De-esser

I don’t remember ever using a de-esser in the early days of my recording career. Sure, there were a few clever engineers who would side-chain a compressor to tame certain frequency ranges, but that was rare and not always used on vocals. If a vocal was harsh or overly...
