Biamp Extends Lineup of Voltera Amplified Loudspeaker Controllers

by | Audio, Audio Connections, Gear, Production

At ISE 2025, Oregon-based Biamp introduced three new 4800-watt models of its Voltera™ family of networked amplified loudspeaker controllers (ALCs). The new Voltera ALCs double the available wattage of the previously most powerful Voltera ALCs, in order to meet the needs of mid-size to larger venue spaces, including stadiums, concert halls, event centers, and indoor arenas.

The Voltera D 4800.4 supplies 4800 watts into four channels, while the Voltera D 4800.2M and Voltera D 4800.4M supply 4800 watts into two or four channels, respectively. Featuring on-board digital signal processing, Voltera ALCs conveniently combine amplification and processing into a single cost-effective, networked solution ideal for spaces too large for the existing line of Voltera ALCs. The two new Voltera D M models include an integrated TesiraFORTÉ™ digital signal processor (DSP), offering customers the same full performance of a standalone DSP, built into the 1 RU chassis, with ample processing for hosting full Tesira-based systems.

“The original Voltera ALCs enabled our integrators and customers to simplify and speed installations for small to medium-sized venues, and now with these new, more powerful Volteras, that same extraordinary experience extends to much larger spaces from entertainment venues to event centers,” said Joe Andrulis, Executive Vice President of Corporate Development at Biamp. “The Voltera line scales easily while offering system reliability and quality audio performance. Customers with large spaces and higher power requirements will enjoy fewer system components, improved automation, power efficiency, and cost savings.”

Designed to offer faster, simpler installation, Voltera requires fewer devices to connect and configure, and less cable to run. Used with Tesira software, Voltera offers excellent control, source selection, and networking capabilities to accommodate a variety of AV scenarios—resulting in extraordinary system performance at an affordable price.

Voltera ALCs are also compatible with Biamp VenueTune software, which offers system designers and installers a staged workflow to design, deploy, and manage their AV systems. Further, Voltera ALCs can be configured using the ALAMOS loudspeaker library, which streamlines amplifier pairing and setup by automatically configuring Tesira and VenueTune profiles for hundreds of Community, Desono, and Commercial Audio loudspeakers.

Once installed, IT personnel, AV pros, and venue managers can continuously optimize performance while remotely monitoring and managing all Voltera assets through the cloud-based Biamp Workplace platform. This software provides a comprehensive AV management program across a variety of Biamp devices and services, featuring real-time alerts, system health tracking, and remotely installed firmware upgrades.

My Love-Hate Relationship with the De-esser

I don’t remember ever using a de-esser in the early days of my recording career. Sure, there were a few clever engineers who would side-chain a compressor to tame certain frequency ranges, but that was rare and not always used on vocals. If a vocal was harsh or overly...
