When an Active Shooter Strikes: What Do You Do?

by | CFX Community, Security, Security Connections

The recent assassination attempt on presidential candidate Trump may have seemed unimaginable until it happened this past weekend. Gun violence has tragically become the new norm, infiltrating our schools, workplaces, and even our houses of worship. According to data from The Violence Prevention Project, there have been 11 mass shootings in houses of worship since 1966, and this number continues to rise.

During the assassination attempt, the Secret Service sprang into action. However, some of the true heroes were ordinary people like you and me, who, seeing others shot, bravely stepped in to help save lives. But how did they know what to do?

In the critical first five minutes of an active shooter situation, what should you do? How can you predict a harmful situation by observing the body language of those around you?

The best way to learn is to join us at the Church Safety Conference at this year’s Church Facilities Expo in Chattanooga, from October 21st to 23rd. At the conference, Glenn Norling, the Executive Director of the Active Shooter Prevention Project, will present a session titled “The Gift of Time: A Proactive Approach to Safety in an Active Shooter Situation.” Learn exactly what actions to take and when to take them if you ever find yourself in such a dire situation as an active or mass shooting.

This is a unique church safety and security conference featuring over 20 sessions designed to enhance and expand your church safety programs. Don’t miss this opportunity to equip yourself and your community with the knowledge and skills to stay safe.

The SM58: Good Enough for Bono, Good Enough for You

Today’s vocal mic market can be overwhelming—especially with wireless systems letting you change heads like you’re swapping pieces on a Lego X-Wing Fighter. A $100 SM58 capsule? Done. A Neumann KK 105 at ten times the cost? Yours if you’ve got the cash. For young...
